How the "Superhero pose" jumpstarted 2021 for me. A look back at 2020.

Tonight, while speed watching Grey’s Anatomy I saw the “Superhero pose” by the character Amelia Shepard a neurosurgeon. In her cerebral pose with her head held high and feet planted firmly on the ground she prepares her psyche for the challenging surgery she is about to undertake. Another Doctor on the show catches her in her stance and the two Doctors discuss its significance and its effect on the success of one self. Her character says “There’s a scientific study that shows that if you stand like this in superhero pose for just five minutes before a job interview or a big presentation or a really hard task, you will not only feel more confident, you will perform immeasurably better.”

"Superhero pose" an inspiration to those who try it

Apparently, research supports this phenomenon. This blog tells how I became an Oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

2021 is here and my writers block has been rearing its ugly head during the final weeks of a year we all want to say “goodbye” to.  A new year brings with its perspective. We’ve turned the calendar page commencing 2021 a new year with new goals to set and new challenges to take on. Although admittedly I have said I didn’t make any resolutions for 2020, I really did make one by committing to publish more articles and to continue to write my blog. My blog is a place where I share my professional and personal experiences.

MENTORING

Offering my perspective and solutions to situations or a method to approach a surgical patient. That may be many of my posts but in my first blog which started this journey. There’s the most recent blog which was the recent Dental Mentor Summit virtual event held in the spring. VOLUNTEERISM ORGANIZED DENTISTRY

In my Board position as the Director of Member Benefits of the American Association of Women Dentists(AAWD), I wanted to highlight the Awards that are bestowed each year by the AAWD Board of Directors in a blog. This blog highlights the Lucy Hobbs Taylor Award which is the highest award granted each year. This blog also highlights the history of the AAWD.  In an effort to comply with my resolutions I wrote an article for the AAWD Chronicle. Here I shared this rendition for my blog. As a newly inducted member of the Long Island Academy of Odontology my blog spoke of this. My time on the Standards Committee at the American Dental Association influenced this blog that was highlighting an article I published.
