Indecision Isn't Bad, It Shows You're Thinking

I’ve partially created multiple blogs only to lose interest in doing the research or just in the topic. Topics on Teledentistry, the opioid epidemic, covid-19, unexpected early retirement, and of course food! Deciding on a topic is as hard decision to commit to each week, especially when I have no boss to answer to or anyone paying me to do it.  Sometimes it reminds me of one of the toughest realities I had to face which was “I had to retire and completely change my life”. That wasn’t in my plan, no, I had at least another ten years to go.  There wasn’t an adequate alternative as I was in agonizing pain from morning till bed time and dealing with chronic complications from prolonged surgery that was affecting my life.

DOING AN ABOUT FACE ON MY LIFE:

In 2017 after leaving clinical practice I tried several hobbies, including furniture rehab. That wasn’t friendly for spine issues, so that fell by the wayside. In following with my teaching experiences, I offer tutoring to all in math and science and those looking for help with professional board preparation.  I remain active with organized dentistry. Continuing in the healthy mode, I perform physical activity to remain healthy and I have committed to swimming during the summer months. Our dog brings us such joy and love and for that reason I share stories about her on Instagram and Facebook, #myfluffyschnauzer.  Additionally, this blog started a year ago this fall, the exact date I will have to check. My point is I started a new commitment as a result of retirement, to share with others. Seeking a new commitment that would enhance my life, besides my families love and support that surrounds me.  It was one of several new changes or tasks I made as a result of retirement. My 35 years in clinical dentistry, starting as an assistant have offered me many unique experiences that I want to share with other practitioners and patients alike. This is a perfect venue to share my clinical experiences and challenges along with other life happenings.

WHAT INSPIRED ME:

After watching the YouTube viral video of Naval admiral William McRaven https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxBQLFLei70

give his commencement speech about doing little things in life to make a better world and you a better person, and he referenced daily bed making.  Who would think that such a menial task could make you a better person.  In keeping with Admiral McRaven since Oct 2015 after undergoing spine surgery I made a commitment to make my bed, every day.  I could count on two hands the number of times I made my bed before this date because at the time it was too much to do in the morning and doing that was just monumental to me. Now I know it’s simple and easy and perks me up, and is a one of the first check marks “completed” of my day.

WHAT GROUNDS ME:

Knowing I have a family that supports me and loves me.

Trying doing better every day to make a difference.

Spending time with those who care about me and love me.

It takes more muscle work to frown than it does to smile.

Learn something new everyday.

Cherish everyday you have and do what makes you happy.

My furniture rehab that was an old radio desk. A beautiful piece of work.
