Iron is an essential mineral for life and cellular function. It’s responsible for aiding the transport of oxygen throughout the body. When you are insufficient, you’re unable to donate blood to the New York Blood 🩸 Center. Donating blood is giving the gift of life. If you are fortunate to be typeO-, the universal donor and 6% of the population, your blood can be used by anyone needing it.
Nutrition hacks to optimize nutrient absorption:
1. Blanched or lightly cooked spinach activates the iron within the food and creates an environment for maximal absorption within the gut . Adding an acidic environment with ascorbic acid(vitamin C) that also maximizes iron absorption. Consider pairing acidic foods like tomatoes with you or spinach.
2. Carrots, tomatoes, broccoli, pumpkin, asparagus, and mushrooms should be handled similarly with some nutrients as cooking activates the minerals within enhancing bioavailability.
3. Omega-3 are essential fatty-acids for cardiac and brain health. There are many types of supplements to consume besides fish, cod liver oil, chia and flax seed, walnuts and soybeans. Flaxseed must be crushed in order to activate the Omega‘s within the seeds hard exterior.
4. Vegetables with water soluble vitamins A,E, and K are absorbed better in the presence of a tiny bit of animal or plant based fats.
5. Avoid coffee or tea while taking supplements or boosting nutrition if you’re goal is to maximize absorption of minerals and vitamins you should avoid coffee and tea during a meal because they leech out some nutrients.
6. There is evidence that shows that black pepper, piperine, improves the absorption of beta carotene. Carrots are cheering!
7. Drug-nutrient depletion agents that affect your ability to maintain appropriate nutrient levels. Over-the-counter and prescription agents.
8. Statins (cholesterol lowering) affect coenzyme Q 10. Diuretics(water pills) lower potassium levels. Acid reducers(tums, Prilosec) lower B12 calcium magnesium and other minerals. Anticonvulsants(antiseizure) Lower vitamin D levels.
My Recipe to enhance nutrients and visual appeal all complements of Aldi‘s. They carry mostly organic products as they are the brother store to Trader Joe’s but with very reasonable pricing. My other favorite store the @Amazingolive.
