This is one of the ways to give back and to help to pass the baton. Taking students under my wing to help and guide and advise them in their career path. Extending the olive branch in a relaxed atmosphere. In my mind that would be in a department store make-up counter. SO that's how we did it. I added a girly twist to incorporate a non-dental focus. A skincare and make-up evening with invitations to students from Stony Brook University School of Dentistry and dental residents from suffolk county residency programs.

HELLO……………..I am hosting along with Dr. Maria Maranga, Dr. Claudia Mahon-Vazquez, Dr. Virginia Mitchell and several other local women dentists, The Clean Face of Dentistry May 9 @ 6:00pm, for the Dental Students and Residents. The purpose of this event is an evening of fun and relaxation from the everyday rigors of our profession. My intention is to show support and promote and welcome women, in particular students, into our profession. I want you all to know that women like myself are here for each of you and each other as a sounding board or a source of advice, because we have a unique perspective. Those of us who have done this already understand what it means to launch a new career in Dentistry, and we do it with a fresh point-of-view. I liken this evening of facial care and make-up and the clean pretty faces we have to the face we sport every day in our challenges. Every day the daily rigors of practice and education which start by many of us with a sparkling bright smile and face. I believe it's important that we continue to network with each other and to help support each other. It's known that the majority of individuals entering and graduating from dental schools are women, however we have not been equally represented in leadership positions, like those attending the event. Networking and support gives us another avenue to succeed. I recall when I opened my practice I had the support of women dentists. At the time, that meant a lot to me and along my career it was important that I maintained those friendships.Thank you all and I look forward to you attending.Sincerely,Sharon Pollick, DMD
